Thank you for the quick reply!

I checked the links. The eBay one says "parallel", but the pictures and the fact that it is an internal drive make it seem like an erroneous description. It ...

Thank you for the reply. These drives had their heyday in the mid-90s, so I would imagine that finding one with a somewhat modern connection (USB or even IDE) might be an issue. However suppose I find ...

I had a Toshiba T1850 at one point in time. Some 386 clocking at 25Mhz if I remember correctly. I believe there was also a T1850C already (C for "color") so monochrome was probably already d ...

Hi all,

I have a 400MB/800MB "Travan" tape (QTR-1) from Sony flying around here.
It was originally used as a backup tape in conjunction with a Conner tape drive (it plugged into the flop ...

Is that reply targeted at bear's other topic?
I think preserving old software is great and I wish being able to share that software with others would be easier and not be such a grey area.

Edit: o ...

What did the mainframe dongle do? I only know the term dongle when it comes to early copy protection mechanisms.

Our family pc used to be an AMD Am486-DX4 100 for a long time (1994 - 2002 or so). It started out with WfWG 3.11 and was upgraded all the way to Windows ME. Its RAM was upgraded from 8 to 32 megs but ...

We had the abandonware discussion here a few times already. My personal opinion still is that everything that is EOL and not being sold anymore is fine (Windows up to ME, Office up to 97 etc.), but my ...

How long do these tapes last? Back when I used floppy disks on a regular basis they failed fairly quickly, so I am wondering how a tape is withstanding time. Are there many faulty sectors on a tape fr ...
