Yes, he's aware. As are all of us on UCL. Anyone running a board on phpbb is having the same problems. I have to remove/ban about 3 to 12 spammer a day from registration. We're working on it...

There should be a confirmation code function in phpbb. (displays a random image with a code you have to enter). That should stop the bots.

Don't know what the function is called or anything, but I know it exists.

The 386Page forums are a wasteland, although as long as we can communicate on Uncreative Labs that shouldn't be too much of a problem to our well-being. Wink

My somewhat open-ended question is, why do some phpBB-based forums attract a lot of spam while others don't?

Others have likely implemented a registration process more difficult to "spam". We hope to do that here as well...

Most the hit-and-run spammers don't bother registering... Requiring registering before posting mostly stopped spam on my board... (But UCL may be different.)

I'm about to scrap phpbb and look for another forum to use. I can't sit and delete 30 new members every week.

The "anonymous & spam" spambots apparently have been taken care of (by requiring registration before posting). The "register & link" and "register & spam" spambots are still a problem (about 5/day). I can take care of most of that, but we still are working on keeping all spam off the board. Advice to any noobies---never click on a link from a recently registered user without understanding the potential consequences....
