I have an old IBM PC/AT which I am resurrecting. Unfortunately
I gave away the original FDD/HDD controller a long time ago.
I would like to replace this with one of the same type as original.
I see lots of controllers on eBay but I don't know the model number
of the original PC/AT one. I think it was a Western Digital , but not sure.
I still have the original 20MB hardrive, and would like to spin it up to
see if it still works. Please let me know if you have any ideas of the
model number of this controller. Thanks.

I have one/some
it was a large wd1003 with IBM rather than wd1003 on it..

any controller of that type will work.
the interleave must be set at: 2:1 not ever faster!
as that is the maximum for that card.
cmos will be set as usual, and if you find the actual card,
just sub it forthe card you are using.
these machines seem to be "transparent"
when you swap a controller.

this is not true. however, with a xt class machine.

even a wd1006-based card ( the 1:1 interleave version) will work. just don't try to " upgrade" the interleve as when you put the older, original card back is it will be very slow, or not work.

at this time, I am home after a 5x coronary bypass on june 15, and not able to go thru boxes. or lift anything.

All AT's had a combination hard/floppy disk controller that was designed by IBM & WD but WD made it. I guess IBM preferred to sub out a lot of things; I guess that's why they let Microsoft supply the operating system Very Happy
