HP Drivers work in series oddly enough a good example is the
HP 1200c deskjet, its driver will work with a 1600c, a 2000c & a 2500c though with the limitations of the 1200c AKA 300dpi.
Your 520 "should" work with any 500series driver and potentially older Deskjet printers, I haven't tried lately but I think a few models of the 500series would work on units as old as the old 300series but it is hit and miss.
Your best bet would be to use an HP emulation like a ruggedwriter driver in TEXT ONLY and you might pull it off but only in regards to text. HP printers all the way up into the 600series (and a few oddballs like the 2000c) kept dos compatibility which meant they had support for older HP emulations. My HP 6p for what its worth came with a dos driver, not sure of the point as it was for dos itself
Cheers

ihave been aware that the hp drivers are backward compatible, for example iof you have a laserjet 5p and tell the pc that YOu have a laserjet II, it will work properly as a laserjet II
the exceptions are that there are a few windows only printers and i always try to use dod capable printers. even getting tham from scrap piles!
the hp 520 is on a w98 system. there is a proprinter emulation ( flip some switches)
but then it would screw up when I sent a windows www page.
I convert things I am saving to ascii, except for those that have photos.
and sometimes I have to convert a chart or list so it fits on one page.
the ws4 column mode is useful for this. it is the default editor for xtree
the default editor for ztree ( more often used) is edit.
I don't even have the last disk *( an extra) drom ws4, a laserjet II driver. |
