This isn't the place for this one but here goes. I found a disk that has QRAM 2.02. However my disk does not have the serial on it. I was reading in the forums that you could use QRAM to get UMB on the XT machine. Will this work on an AST SIXPACK Premium? i've not got 1mb EMS. Like i said, probably not the place to ask on this one, but i found the other threads. |

an xt of close clone ( 8088 based)
can address 1 mb of ram. the ram above 640 was "reserved" for internal use by the computer
certain "tricks" were used to utilize small portions of that ram used for internal pc functions
such as video memory
to create a small ( nery small) ramdisk
the above boards and the other boards like the rambank boards were basically just used for a ram disk.
because the 8088 and the hard drives during that era were quite slow programs would be loaded in the ramdisk at bootup. This slowed up the bootup process considerably.
also there was some use with LIM ( lotus intel microsoft memory standard))
if the program supported it, to make things run faster by using ram rather than hard disk space.
which was slow as it was swapped back and forth.
I think and I could be wrong that this program requires at least an 80286 or better still a 80386 |

QRAM 2.x runs on both 808x and 80286. I run run it on my XT, so it definetly works.
As far as I know EMS is actually faster than using XMS. From what I understand XMS also uses a window located in conventional memory to access beyond the 1mb limit. |

You're right if your asking for cracks/hacks/keys or such (i.e.--other material not appropriate). This is not the place to ask. Please read our policy on this:

some of these programs are, as you say, so old that nobody uses them
years ago I was given a copy of each
I still remember the red and green quarterdeck folders with stripes
but where they are now, I have no idea
probly really buried deeply in the garage
I suppose, if they turned up someday, Passing the entire package on would be a legal transfer of the software. |

@k2x4b524p
Don't misunderstand, what happens between members through (hint, hint) PM is simply that---between members. It's just that we fought kinda hard to get this site back way back in '04 and would hate to lose it because of cracks/warez etc... |
