So I've found a fellow not too far from where I live who's got a couple different machines that would suit my retro-PC needs. One's a Packard-Bell, the other's a VTech Laser 286. Both are AT clones. The specs are pretty similar, but the one thing that stand out about the VTech system is that it's packaged in a much smaller form-factor case, closer to a modern ATX desktop PC than AT-era behemoths like the Packard-Bell.
That would make it quite nice for me (space-constrained as I am,) but I have one worry: compatibility. I don't have any idea how good or bad VTech's clones tended to be; I'm only familiar with them from their extraordinarily chintzy "baby computers." Is anyone here familiar enough with this system to give me some advice? |
