I moved boxes and "found" arts first pc" he had spent big bucks on installing a pentium overfroev ( 25 mhz) on this HP 486.
I wanted a 486 to test 72 pin ram.
I wanted one with easy-to-get-at sockets. I think this would eb a likely tool. A 486 will allow me to test ONE chip at a time.
after finding the VGA had a missing hold and the connector would not fit.
I put in an ISA video card ( with all 15 holes) and fired it up
hmm nothing. but it takes 20 sec to even show a flash of light !
the original was not seen even by fdisk. I had a few smaller drigves handy and put one in. OH wow
win 98 right to the desktop.
no PNP to happiness it was like it was made for this pc( it wasn't)
I attempted other hd, Not knowing if this had the 528 problem but the win 98 drive was a 6g.
I tried 5 drives with different jumper settings. still, all were not recognized.

I really wan a 486 with easy to get at simm slots. I am sute there is =one out in the garage.
it seems the easy to do thinsg are hard to do.
But solving this problem exercised my old brain. it only took 3 hours to see something on the screen! ' - i HOPE IT DOES NOT TAKE THREE MORE HOURS
TO GET A DRIVE THAT IS RECOGNIZES.
trhan it will be time to cut snips from labels and mark 4 8 16 in the simms.

meanwhile. If someone has any suggestions :" why not"
I will let you know what I find out.

"upward and onward" solving problem from the past. darn slow machine.

I have not figured out YET how to test all my 30 pin simms
