years ago during windows 98 days. I strated using a promise ata133tx2 controller card.. It supports 4 drives drivers are available up to xp. promise says it works with vista..
I noticed the newer versions of the drivers even for the ata100 card say \i386 anbd x64..
If you are trying to make one of these work on an older pc, the drivers seem to be not available.
this is the site to older promise site
http://www2.promise.com/default.aspx?region=en-US&m=107
several years ago. I purchased several maxtor controllers
Identical to promise with the maxtor name.
I flashed the bios to promise from maxtor
and it worked..
I have temporaily LOST my old files on a drive. I hope to restore it.
using these cards is a way to bypass the 520 limit and the other l;imits that affect older pc's
it requires a pci slot.
if you do not an isa scsi card is the only opption.
scsi controllers and drives do not have the ide/ata/pata limits.
I was not able to make a scsi drive work on the old 486-33 I upgraded to 496-66 with 32 m of ram mentioned below.
I have a sata eide card from maxtor and maxtor seagate is no help.
I may have to re flash the bios as the drivers and bios are on the old promise site
I will try first without a flash/upgrade.
not there are no DOS drivers for these crds.
there are NT drivers.
it is som, etimes a big pain to install.
sometimes the cards are seen as " mass storage controller"
and later may appear as a scsi controller tho they are ide and not scsi.
I hope this helps. |
