the latest 7.2? needs w2000 or xp,
they keep pestering me 2-3 times a week to upgrade,.
I understand the Penelope will be the replacement and part of Mozilla. anyway it when it just popped up back to LITE mode.
I copied an old eudora.ini file and it fixed things.
Mostly I did no want to lose m,y spam filter.
BUT reading some of the files with TODAY';s date
It looks like that are watching me!
the file is called audit.log |

Walter,
I know you can't use Eudora 3x anymore, but I remember reading years ago on the 'net that starting with version 4.1 or 4.2, Eudora had adware/spyware (I suppose it is called adware if they inform you first your privacy is going to be violated).
Version 4.0 was also to be avoided as it used the engine in IE for html mail, which meant it was vulnerable to all the bugs/security holes that IE was (and is). Version 3x did not use IE's engine to render html.
BTW, I am still using Eudora 3.05 pro for all my e-mail. While I can click on URL's in e-mail I get no pictures or 'graphics' of any kind, just line and paragraph breaks. I know most people would hate such an old version, but over ten years I have been on the Internet and have never once been infected with any kind of a virus, worm, spyware, etc. through the Internet or e-mail. (I did once get an old program on a floppy disk that had the NYB virus.) |

a knowlegable friend warned me about spyware
and we continued to use version 1.54.
whenwe upgraded to windows 95 we installed the
32 bit version.
But 2-3 years ago our ISP went to a "secure mail server" and we had to upgrade to at least version 4.
we all went to version 5.0
and will stay there as long as possible,
we avoid upgrading just for the sake of upgrading.
we are close to changing over to windows 2000.
as some things will not work properly.
it may be a year off or even more.
I find it easy to retain a working copy despite crashes.
I save the eudora,.ini and the mbx files.
( the toc files re-create themselves)
and I can re-install from the 5meg exe file, copy the old, saved files and be working.
I have not been able to get rid of the black on gray menus, i need better colors.. |
