I've had an IBM 5140 for a pretty long time, but I was never able to use it because of damage to the keyboard PCB and a fractured membrane interface cable. Tonight I finally managed to fix it by soldering in a ribbon cable and patching the damaged PCB traces, and now I have a working system again. The display probably isn't in the best condition, but this machine came with a few goodies. Two extra IBM 64kb SRAM modules, and one STB 384k module which brings the system up to 640kb leaving an extra 128kb configurable as a ramdrive or EMS.
The system also comes with parallel/serial interface, carrying case and original battery (probably dead). It should be pretty intereteresting to play around with. I wonder if I can rig it to run a hard drive...Anybody else in here have experience with this machine? |
