discard Why throw it away?? A computer might be discarded for many reasons: Its a fact, most business people are not techincally minded. They use their PC to run a word processor or spreadsheet, they dont open the lid or even run scandisk, they have an engineer to do that. If their engineer charges them £40 an hour plus parts or so, it may not be worth doing, but the system is often value to an enthusiast who has average knowledge of how a computer works. Why send a computer to incinerator/land fill?? * It doesnt work, and may have a fault that makes it uneconomical to repair. * Its considered old/useless, maybe been in a cupboard and discarded to free up space. * Been replaced with something new. Some computer dealers have bins outside with scrap equipment they dont consider profitable. These are worth looking at, but do ask permission, they might not like you snooping about or making a mess. If you want do computing on a shoestring, and have basic knowledge of using a PC computer, there has never been a better time than to scavange to systems or parts from your dump!! Warning: This site assumes you have basic computer knowledge for a fair while and have common sense. Goods purchased from the dump, are sold and seen, no warranty. Any electrical item can give a possibility of an electric shock or fire hazard. I would not leave any item recently obtained plugged in or switched on unattended. I had a Compaq 286 which had got rain inside the power supply which made a spectacular bang when turned on. Leave kids at home or in your car. These places are not safe with vehicles moving everywhere and glass and metal stuff often everywhere. Its best not to climb onto the steel bins and get stuff, it could be very dangerous. Ask one of the tip men to get it for you. No warranties are given in this site. BACK
