Would the addition of an UDMA 133 controller make that much difference to a CD or DVD drive? Is the speed boost only really applicable to hard drives?
I looked on the box my DVD-RW drive came in and all it said was E-IDE/ATAPI so I don't think it will improve performance any. |

As opposed to PIO mode, yes, but if its already running DMA- not really I think. |

MY WIFE HAS A PROMISE " ULTRA ATA 133 TX2" PCI CARD.
iT WAS NECESSARY TO OPERATE THE 120 G HARD DRIVC
(SORRT ABOUT THE CAPS)
her p3 system would not even see the drive.
at newegg about $35.00.
there are likely accelerator programs that would help by creating a cache.
keep the slower cd off the same port/cable as the faster hard drive. |

the epox my ( k6-2-450 was supposed to see a 80g. since i don't have one of those, I can only take their word for it.
if you don't want to get a "oops" message from the promise ata card, use the 80 wire ide cables. they look just like the regular 40 wit\re ide cables except they have a "smoother look" think each wire has a shield. otherwise i think you zre limited to ata 33. I also have a promise ata 66 card ands it helps , but only with newer drives. |

I just ran into the same probem: My PII-350 mobo won't recognize the two new 250gb drives correctly.
Luckily I'm using them with a U133 Raid Controller, so it doesn't really matter if the motherboard recognizes them. It would have just made copying the partition over to the new drives a lot easier since most norton ghost like programs don't work together wíth raid controllers ( don't see the drives, b/c they lack driver support for raid chips I guess ). |
