Yeah, I've sort of run into that problem. I have a bunch of software that's Windows 3.1 compatible (I have it on my 486 w/ Windows 3.1) but it seems almost everything for "Windows 3.x" works only with Windows 3.1 and up. I can't even get WinZip to run. Fooey!
Do you know any sites that list Windows 3.0 compatible software? |

"Do you know any sites that list Windows 3.0 compatible software?"
I have wondered that to.
I believe that there should be one made, as well as for 2.x and 1.x, even if I had to undertake it (someone does), the problem being INFORMATION.
No one seems to take the time to list what they know will work with 3.0. I remember many map proggies, games and other odd programs I simply found in stores back up until about 97 that listed themselves 3.0 compatible. One of the old Menards yard design programs worked under 3.0. Too bad I wasn't smart enough to make a list then. Same goes for 2.x and 1.x, I do remember seeing off brand programs here and there for OLD windows OS's, a few were in Shopko back when they still had cool boxed floppy software, but alas I had no cash and didn't buy them and can't remember what they were specifically. There were A LOT of programs made for 3.0 by lesser known 3rd parties years after 3.0 was dead.
Back in the day I always wanted to find an internet program that would run under 3.0 or on a 286 that wasn't for dos, only one I could find was Aol 1.0 for windows (3.1x unfortunately but it worked on a 286)
Good Luck

There used to be one years ago called 386 World hosted by some guy out of Scandinavia. He had quite a few titles that worked in Windows 3.0, however, this was years ago before I had a burner or even knew what a Mirror is. I wonder whatever happend to that site. |

I remember there were a lot of "386" web pages out there, all with different old 3x software.
I'm thinking I'm just going to switch over to Windows 3.1. It doesn't seem like it's going to run that much slower and I'd really like to be able to use my Windows 16bit programming IDE's on my 286 as well. Oh well... (I still have Win3.0 on my XT though ) |
