I got a Siemens GC3080 cash register, which is an Epson HX-20 fitted with an extension module on the left. The HX-20 label and the original power and serial ports were covered up with a sticker. The extension is gone (charred resistor), but anyway, I don't want a cash register, I want an HX-20.
So I removed the extension, and powered the machine from the internal battery connector. It beeps, and dispalys the following: "CFG ROM?". No more, no less, it seems to be modified to work specifically with that now-gone extension. I palyed with the mainboard DIP switches, but nothing happens.
Does anyone have idea on freeing the machine?
My sixth sense says that it needs a reprogramming of the ROM (which is some EPROMs in IC sockets, if I see it right).
Does anyone have a ROM dump from an original machine?
(A German one would be the best because of the keyboard layout, but any working ROM is highly appreciated!) |

Yeah, a user's manual. Will be very useful once I get it to work. Thanks.
Epson doesn't offer any real support for it, which is quite understandable after almost 30 years. Even the manual is much more than what other manufacturers offer for half so old products... |
